Podcasting is one of the most exciting arenas of modern media. It’s been booming in recent years around the world. Three years ago podcast subscriptions surpassed 1 billion, across 250,000 unique podcasts in over 100 languages. In the years 2014-2015 there was a significant surge in numbers - up 32%. Over the past year alone, there’s been a 14% increase in podcast listening.

Leigh says the key to this escalating surge is the smart phone.

“More and more people are embracing a medium that’s ‘on the go’, especially in the car, and also easily accessed through social media. Podcasting, (as with radio) has the force and attraction of ‘the theatre of the mind’ without the distractions and demands of the video medium.

Business is beginning to take up podcasting as a highly effective communication tool and brand builder. The key to podcasting that truly connects is to offer real value to the listener. Radio, and now podcasting, remains my first and greatest love because of their unique ability to truly connect”.
